Summer 2008 Session 1 - July 7-11 (Full) Session 2 - August 11-15 Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily Cost: $375/session
Intensive Throwing Workshop The intensive throwing pottery workshop is designed to help each individual improve their throwing skills. We begin each morning with a few set throwing drills to assess your personal strengths. We will look at body posture and hand position to maximize results. You will learn to use a pointer gauge to improve speed and accuracy of repetitive throwing (even if you only throw one of a kind, it will help). Participants will produce set items as a group as well as personal projects. Trimming is very important in completing forms and will be studied in detail. Handles can be essential or decorative, since their placement must be considered in throwing the form, handle making will be included in the workshop. This pottery workshop is run in a fun and relaxed way. A lot of information is disseminated on pottery forming, and general studio operation. A pug mill is used for all reclaim so students can throw until their arms fall off (unlimited clay). We are situated in Uptown Waterloo close to many restaurants and entertainment, and only a five minute walk from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. If you enjoy exercise, the Waterloo Recreation Complex is within walking distance.Students are responsible for meals and lodging. Check out the accommodation at Wilfrid Laurier University which is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the studio. Hotel Laurier offers great accommodation for the summer at reasonable prices. Year round workshops: - Weekend specialty workshops at my studio e.g. Teapots, Throwing Techniques, Lidded forms, etc.
- Off site workshops at your Guild.
